Another Caribbean destination has announced eased restrictions for vaccinated travelers: the British Virgin Islands.

Beginning May 15, the British Virgin Islands will be reducing its quarantine period for fully vaccinated travelers.

Fully vaccinated travelers will have to take a test upon arrival; once they get a negative test result (typically within 24 hours), they’ll be free to roam the BVI — and can forego the four-day quarantine for non-vaccinated travelers.

Vaccinated travelers will still have to provide proof of a negative PCR test within five days before travel, and will have to provide proof of vaccination.

“This is great news and timely, as more guests are arriving fully vaccinated and many in our industry have stepped forward to take the vaccine in support of economic rejuvenation,” said Clive McCoy , the British Virgin Islands’ Director of Tourism. “The Territory already has an enviable record for health and safety during the pandemic and have continued with its strategy of gradual reopening based on international conditions and the local situation. Any progress in that direction augers well for tourism and for the economy, and this is a very significant step”

The BVI considers someone fully vaccinated if they have received both doses of an approved two-dose vaccine like AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer; or one shot of a single-dose vaccine like Johnson & Johnson.

The BVI is currently on a drive to vaccinate up to 70 percent of its population; so far, more than 9,000 BVI residents have been vaccinated.

The BVI is the latest destination to ease restrictions for vaccinated travelers, following this week’s high-profile announcement by The Bahamas that it would be waiving pre-testing requirements for the fully vaccinated.
