The island of Saint Lucia is the newest Caribbean destination to launch an extended stay initiative, with a new program called “Live It.”

The program invites visitors to stay longer, work remotely and “embrace local life,” according to the island’s tourist board.

The plan is to invite visitors to stay in Saint Lucia for up to six weeks.

Program registrants are paired with an island specialist who acts as a personal guide during their stay, with tailored activities ranging from creole cooking and rainforest exploration to diving.

“The ‘Live it’ program is launching at a time when interest in international travel is renewed in our key markets of the U.S., Canada and the UK,” said Saint Lucia Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee. “In a shorter visit, travelers are limited to a few activities but if they stay for longer they get to roam locally, decompress from a year of lockdowns and also work remotely. With so many things to explore safely in Saint Lucia paired with the demand for extended vacations, we created this immersive program so visitors can live like a local, while feeling like a member of the family.”

Saint Lucia is the newest island to enter the extended-stay space, with more and more Caribbean destinations looking to tap into what is a growing market amid the new realities of remote work.
