The Caribbean’s First Ayurvedic Retreat Is in Puerto Rico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - April 2, 2021

The Caribbean’s first full-fledged Ayurvedic retreat is in Puerto Rico.

The Finca Victoria boutique hotel on the island of Vieques has relaunched as an Ayurvedic retreat, the only one of its kind in the region.

The property, which first opened at the end of 2019, is the brainchild of hotelier and designer Sylvia De Marco.

De Marco developed her passion for Ayurvedic medicine while studying in India and Sri Lanka.

Amid the pandemic, she began to see demand from guests looking to explore a deeper commitment to Ayurveda, a millennia-old holistic medicine system.

“This is when I knew I was onto something,” said De Marco. “Nobody wanted to leave. So I took my practice and expanded what I know.”

Now, the “comprehensive” Ayurvedic retreat offers personalized consultations; individual treatments; Panchakarma detox and weight loss programs; an Ayurvedic kitchen using locally grown produce; an herbal pharmacy and cooking classes, among others.

Guests can choose Ayurvedic packages ranging from three to 21 days.
