Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has kicked off its Caribbean expansion out of Miami with new flights to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
The new nonstop Miami-St Thomas flights are operating five times each week, with service on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
It’s another boost for the US Virgin Islands, whose tourism industry continues to show relative strength amid the pandemic compared to much of the Caribbean.
That’s been buoyed by a strong set of tourism protocols launched last summer (you can find more here).
The destination is also exempt from the new CDC testing requirements, meaning if you visit the USVI you don’t need to take a test before you return to the mainland U.S.
That’s along with one of the most complete reopenings of any destination in the Caribbean, from luxury hotels like the transformed Ritz-Carlton, St Thomas to the always-popular Bolongo Bay Beach Resort and its legendary Iggies bar.
The launch represents another new route for Frontier to St Thomas, following the carrier’s launch earlier this month of new flights from Orlando to St Thomas. That route is operating twice weekly.
Frontier just launched another new route from Miami to the Caribbean, with four flights each week between Miami and Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic’s tourism hub.
