The island of Aruba is reporting a strong response to its “workation” program, which targets remote workers looking to stay on the island for up to three months.

The program includes special rates at a variety of hotels and accommodation providers for long-term stays.

Since the launch of the program in September, the island has welcomed more than 3,161 visitors through the program, either alone or with their families.

The vast majority, 85 percent, came from the North American market; 62 percent of participants were first-time visitors to the Dutch Caribbean island.

Millennials dominated the program, with more than 43 percent between the ages of 20 and 39.

Unlike similar programs recently launched in the Caribbean, Aruba’s “workation” program does not entitle remote workers to stay for a year, with remote workers limited to three months on the island.
