Saint Lucia has extended the first phase of its tourism reopening, the country’s government said this week. 

Saint Lucia, which reopened for tourism in early June, has extended phase one until Sept. 30, citing the “risks associated with this phase.”

For now, Saint Lucia is pre-testing visitors to the island and requiring them to stay on the grounds of their hotels. 

Saint Lucia Tourism Minister Dominica Fedee said that, while the first phase has been extended, the Ministry of Tourism “is exploring options to add additional attractions and restaurants, so as to boost foreign exchange circulation within the local economy.”

The second phase of tourism would include the reopening of the diving sector, along with other sites and attractions, along with Airbnb and villa properties.
