Bahamas Begins Work on $250 Million Redevelopment of Nassau Cruise Port
The redevelopment of the Nassau Cruise Port in The Bahamas has officially kicked off.
The $250 million project began with the demolition of the former Bahamas Customs Warehouse.
Global Ports Holding, the largest cruise port operator in the world, is leading the transformation under a 25-year management agreement.
The Bahamas and Nassau Cruise Port Ltd signed a heads of agreement on the project in August 2019.
“We are embarking on a quarter of a billion-dollar project to redevelop what will become the iconic, world-renowned and new Nassau Cruise Port,” said Bahamas Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis.
The two-year project will entail a dramatic reimagining of the port, including new retail facilities, a new terminal, a major new outdoor event and entertainment space and new food and beverage outlets.
That’s along with a waterfront park, a “harbor village,” a new harbor, a junkanoo museum, and an amphitheater.
“Rather than Nassau going to sleep early every evening, Bahamians and visitors should enjoy a bustling and vibrant city, with exciting nightlife, and entertainment, featuring Bahamian, and international culture, music and food,” the Prime Minister said.
