The Only Hotel on This Bahamas Island Is For Sale
There’s just one hotel on Great Harbour Cay in The Bahamas, a tucked-away retreat that’s a favorite of jetsetters and adventurers.
And now it’s for sale.
The Carriearl Boutique Hotel, the four-unit hotel on Great Harbour Cay, has been listed for $1.795 million, Caribbean Journal Invest has learned.
The property was first built in the late 1960s as a “show” home for a grand real estate destination that drew visitors like Cary Grant and Paul Newman and saw the construction what was at the time an 18-hole championship golf course.

The Carriearl has “huge potential for expansion,” says co-owner Angie Dronsfield, who purchased the property in 2005 and restored it.
For now, there’s approval for the addition of five more cottages on the grounds, along with permission for an expansion of the main building with an additional eight bedrooms.
The property includes a 50-foot freshwater pool, an “avenue of palm trees” that leads to a 5-mile white-sand beach, and two eateries: a fine-dining international restaurant and a poolside bistro led by English Chef Stuart Wyatt. (The restaurant has room for 80 covers in three seating areas).

Dronsfield says the property is a bonefishing paradise, with a bonefishing outfit led by local guide Percy Darville.
There are regular commercial flights from Fort Lauderdale to Great Harbour Cay on both Tropic Ocean Airways and Makers Air, with a flight time of about an hour.
“Great Harbour Cay is still relatively unknown in the Tourist and Bone Fishing fraternity, but with the construction of a new airport terminal which will be finished sometime in 2021, Great Harbour Cay is ripe for development, as is Carriearl Boutique Hotel,” Dronsfield tells Caribbean Journal Invest.
The Carriearl, listed for $1.795 million net negotiable, is a private listing with no realtor fees.
