Marriott is reopening its pair of resorts in the Mexican Caribbean destination of Cancun, Caribbean Journal has learned.

In fact, the JW Marriott Cancun already opened on June 8, while the Marriott Cancun will be opening its doors on July 1.

Both properties are relaunching under Marriott’s “Commitment to Clean” health and safety protocols, along with the “Sanitation and Cleaning Protocols” of the Quintana Roo government.

The JW Mariott Cancun had just completed a $40 million upgrade to all 447 ocean-facing guest rooms before the pandemic.

“There’s no greater feeling than welcoming our guests back with refreshed, inviting spaces that lay the foundation for an exceptional vacation experience,” said Vice President and General Manager Christopher Calabrese. “We continuously strive to elevate our offerings, and that started with JW Marriott Cancun’s design-forward room renovation. When taken in combination with Marriott Cancun’s new lobby, the final touch of an earlier renovation, it feels like two virtually new hotels.”

The 450-room Marriott Cancun is also adding a new eatery this year called Hana, a Polynesian-style restaurant that will replace the former La Capilla eatery.
