A $175 Million Hyatt Ziva Project Is Underway in Barbados
The Hyatt Ziva all-inclusive brand is continuing its Caribbean expansion with a new project in Barbados.
The project, which was first envisioned back in 2016 as a Hyatt Centric-branded project, has resumed work amid the pandemic.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley recently toured the Hyatt Ziva site, which is located on Carlisle Bay near Bridgetown.
The project is part of a broader construction relaunch on the island.
“We expect to see more construction going on in this environment,” Mottley said. “There are multiple things that are going to have to be done to keep those Barbadians who have lost their jobs as a result of this pandemic occupied, and it is full steam ahead for us.”
The next phase of the Hyatt Ziva project will see the enabling works and foundation, Mottley said.
The $175 million Ziva project is the brainchild of Vision Developments; it will feature 380 rooms (along with 40 condominium units), as the first true new-build hotel in Barbados in more than 10 years.
All-inclusive company Playa Hotels and Resorts has opened eight Hyatt Ziva-branded resorts in destinations including Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Playa has been active in the region of late, including this week’s high-profile sale of a pair of resorts in Jamaica.
“The whole world is going through difficult periods and adversity, but we believe that there’s more opportunity for us now,” said Developer Mark Maloney. “This is significant for us, for Hyatt, and this will be ready at the perfect time. Two years from now, we’ll have an amazing project for Barbados.”
