From St Maarten to Punta Cana, 10 Beaches to Dream About

caribbean tourism opportunity

We’re all thinking of the Caribbean right now, and in an uneasy time the region’s beauty and its people inspire us to be hopeful about tomorrow.

In the meantime, imagining ourselves on stunning Caribbean beaches is a form of solace right now, a way to wonder about better days ahead.

The latest edition of our new Beaches to Dream (a new weekly story we’ll be publishing every Sunday) about feature takes you on a digital journey across some spectacular shores in the Caribbean, from signature coastlines in St Maarten to breathtaking sands in Punta Cana.

What’s your favorite beach in the Caribbean? Let us know — and explain why you love it — in an email to news@caribjournal.com and we may feature it.

Roxxy Beach, St Maarten We’re dreaming about freshly crafted cocktails and bright red umbrellas, buzzing music from the DJ in the beach shack and the best tuna tartare on the island. And we’re dreaming about the all-day party that is Roxxy in St Maarten — and imagining our return.

Valley Church, Antigua There’s just something about the water at this renowned beach on the southwestern coast of Antigua. It’s more than just brilliant turquoise — there’s almost a kind of satin finish, one that gives this beach an ethereal glow all times of day.

Point of Sand, Little Cayman We could all take a moment to imagine ourselves on that far-off outpost called Little Cayman, spending a digital day on its magical Point of Sand, with nothing but a beach chair, a cold beer and the expanse of the Caribbean Sea.

Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana This is the most popular beach in the Caribbean, at least by visitor volume, and it’s easy to see why: perfect, soft white sand, classic turquoise and those seemingly endless rows of waving palm trees.

Protestant Cay, St Croix No visit to St Croix is complete without an afternoon on Protestant Cay, the little island just off the coast of the boardwalk in Christiansted. The beach here is just about perfect: sparklingly clear, with the feeling of being on a far-off cay somewhere despite being a minute offshore from downtown. It’s St Croix’s most underrated beach, and one of its best.

Rendezvous Bay, Anguilla You’re sitting on a lounge chair, drinking Garvey’s rum punch and staring out at the jaw-dropping scenery across the water in St Martin and life is just about perfect. If there’s a moment we can daydream about for a month, it’s this. And we can’t wait to get back.

Ilet du Gosier, Guadeloupe Take a 30-second ferry from the little dock in Gosier on Guadeloupe’s main island of Grande Terre and you reach Ilet du Gosier, a lovable little islet with a Robinson Crusoe-style beach bar (the lovely Ti’ Robinson) that immediately becomes your own little private island for the day.

Greenwood Beach, Cat Island Cat Island is one of the great frontier destinations in The Bahamas: raw, unadulterated, mesmerizing. And its always-empty beaches are as diverse as the island itself, including this wondrous pink-sand kitesurfing beach called Greenwood.

Maho Beach, St John Yes, we love Trunk Bay — how can you not? But St John is filled with magnificent stretches of sand, and we’re rather partial to the exotic, quiet Maho Bay, where there’s a perfect cocktail of green, turquoise and white ingredients.

Pinneys Beach, Nevis You can spend all day staring out to the rolling hills of St Kitts from Pinneys Beach on Nevis, home to the legendary Four Seasons Resort Nevis. There’s a way the beach juts out around the bend; there’s something about the golden sand; it all feels even more exotic than it already is — and that’s saying something.
