Carnival says it is extending its pause in operation through May 11, the company announced this week.
Carnival said all North America sailings will be paused until May 11, “as COVID-19 continues to impact global health and commerce.”
For now, Carnival said that for travelers with sailings booked after May 11, “you have not been impacted.”
“We want to thank both our guests and travel advisors for their continued patience and support,” Carnival said in a statement.
The move is part of a what is effectively a wider global cruise freeze in light of the continued global coronavirus pandemic.
The move comes as top luxury cruise line Cunard announced a similar extension, with a continued suspension of all voyages through May 15.
“The impact of COVID-19 is affecting personal routines and businesses as well as placing significant travel restrictions around the world,” said Simon Palethorpe, President of Cunard. “Everyone in the Cunard team is aware of the need to support the management and containment of COVID-19 globally. This includes protecting the health and safety of our guests and crew. It is therefore right we extend the pause in operations.”
