Puerto Rico tourism continues to surge in 2020, showing renewed strength in spite of the earthquakes on the island in January.

Puerto Rico’s primary air hub, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, reported 792,317 passengers in February, which represented a 16.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2019.

That was buoyed by 16.4 percent growth in passenger traffic from within the United States.

International traffic rose by 13.4 percent to 77,480 passengers in February, compared to February 2019, according to newly-released data from Mexico-based ASUR, which manages the airport.

For the year to date, Puerto Rico passenger traffic is up by 13.6 percent, with a total of 1.68 million passengers.

The traffic surge comes after Puerto Rico posted double-digit stayover arrival growth in 2019, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
