In a crucial step for a pair of destinations in The Bahamas, Silver Airways is resuming flights to Abaco and Grand Bahama this week.

The Fort Lauderdale-based carrier will be relaunching service to both Freeport, Grand Bahama and Marsh Harbour, Abaco on Dec. 19.

Silver will be running daily flights between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport, Grand Bahama, with the exception of Tuesdays. The carrier will also fly two flights per day on Saturdays.

Silver will be operating five flights per week from Fort Lauderdale to Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

The company also said it planned to resume flights to Treasure Cay in Abaco in February 2020, pending the opening of Treasure Cay Airport.

“We are thrilled to resume the necessary and much-needed service to two more islands in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian,” said Silver Airways Senior Vice President of Commercial and Finance Pedro Motta.  “The best way we can continue supporting our fellow neighbors in the Bahamas is to travel to their many fine islands and patronize their hotels and resorts, restaurants and attractions.”

Silver operates more flights to The Bahamas than any other carrier.

The move comes as a number of hotels have relaunched in both destionations.

Grand Bahama has seen the relaunch of more than a dozen hotel properties, while three hotels in Abaco have already reopened, led by the popular Abaco Club at Winding Bay.
