Princess Cruises has officially taken delivery of a major new cruise ship that will soon be heading to the Caribbean.

The new Sky Princess cruise ship is the first Princess ship built from the ground up as one of its new MedallionClass smart-platform ships.

The handover ceremony was held at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy this week.

The MedallionClass includes everything from expedited arrival, smart devices for on-demand services and even ways to locate your family and friends.

The 3,660-guest ship will launch in Europe before heading to the Caribbean on Dec. 1.

It shares amenities with newer Princess ships like Regal Princess, Royal Princess and Majestic Princess, with amenities like the Phantom Bridge; the only jazz theater at sea and the company’s new Sky Suites.

“We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to our long-time shipbuilding partner Fincantieri who delivered Sky Princess to us today,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “As our new flagship in the fleet, Sky Princess represents the absolute best Princess Cruises has to offer our guests by connecting them with what matters most, unique destinations, loved ones, and new friends, while enjoying all the state-of the-art experiences in comfort and style.”

Princess Cruises is in the midst of a fleet expansion project that will also see the debut of four more ships by 2025, with Enchanted Princess next in line with a planned June 2020 launch.
