Endurance athlete Cameron Bellamy just made history this weekend, becoming the first person to ever swim from Barbados to Saint Lucia.

The 100-mile swim, completed over two days, is the longest open-channel swim in history.

“Thank you for once again choosing Barbados to be a part of your amazing journey,” Barbados Tourism Marketing said in a statement.

Bellamy set off on Friday morning from the beach at the Saint Peter’s Bay resort in Barbados, swimming nonstop — meaning he did not stop to sleep, accompanied by a support boat that would periodically throw him food and fluids and pouring ice-cold water on his head.

It’s the latest athletic feat for Bellamy, a native of South Africa, whose previous adventures include a 57-row across the Indian Ocean (one that set two Guinness World Records) and a solo cycling journey that covered 4,039 miles from Beijing across Asia.
