A new adults-only resort project has officially broken ground in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina laid the first stone for construction of the new Hotel Pure Salt Orchidarium, which will be located in the Uvero Alto area of greater Punta Cana.

The latest new hotel project in the Dominican Republic will see an investment of $85 million, with the potential to create 500 direct and 700 indirect new jobs, according to a statement from the government.

The 269-room, adults-only resort will have an open-air plaza, pools, five themed restaurants, four bars, a coffee shop, green areas and even an orchid garden as its centerpiece.

That will be accompanied an event space with the capacity for 350 people.

The project is the brainchild of MAC Hotels, led by president Miguel Amengual Cifre, who called Punta Cana a “a destination that is successful and highly appreciated by international clientele.”

It’s the first Dominican Republic outpost for the Pure Salt hotel brand, which has a portfolio of three luxury resorts in Mallorca, Spain and was founded in 2018 by the Amengual family.

It’s yet another sign that the Dominican Republic’s hotel development engine is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Dominican Republic, which has for years been the most-visited destination in the Caribbean, has been among the top destinations for hotel investment for years, thanks to a decidedly development-friendly tourism approach.
