Hotel construction is booming in the Caribbean and Mexico right now, according to new data from analytics firm STR.

The number of hotels in construction in the wider region is up 30.7 percent year over year through April, according to the data.

That includes a total of 131 hotels comprising 29,187 rooms in the Caribbean and Mexico.

That growth has been led by the upper upscale segment, which has 6,566 rooms in construction, along with the luxury segment, which has 6,215 rooms under construction.

While Mexico unsurprisingly leads the pipeline, with 15,731 rooms, the Dominican Republic has 6,216 rooms in construction, while Jamaica has 2,144 hotel rooms in construction.

Cuba also has a total of 1,327 rooms in construction, according to the data.
