Mexico’s Interjet Airlines has signed a bilateral interline agreement with American Airlines, it announced this week.

The move means Interjet customers connecting through the American Airlines network can now purchase one ticket for flights on either airline, along with the ability to check bags from their origin all the way to their final destination.

American Airlines travelers flying to Mexico will have the same convenience.

“This is another important interline agreement for Interjet Airlines,” said William Shaw, CEO of Interjet Airlines. “With this American Airlines agreement, we can now offer greater connectivity to more of the world.”

In a statement, the company said it hoped that the presence of Interjet would be “strengthened” in routes between the United States and Mexico.

The Mexico City-based airline carries 13 million passengers every year.
