Hotel Caravelle, among the most popular places to stay on the island of St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, has closed to begin a renovation project.

The renovation and remodeling will last through the summer, with the hotel planning to reopen its doors in October.

The hotel’s casino, restaurant, scuba shop and market will remain open, however.

“In February 2016, we unveiled a completely renovated Caravelle Hotel and the response from the community was tremendous. In 2017 two uninvited visitors, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, stormed through the US Virgin Islands causing quite a bit of damage to our hotel,” said Andrew Dubuque of the Caravelle Hotel. “We were fortunate to remain open and accommodate relief workers while the island mended. Now that most of the island has recovered, we will dive deep into hotel renovations and bring back Caravelle Hotel to its pristine condition.”

The renovation project will include repairs, window replacements, new guest amenities and revamped guest rooms, among other changes.

The Caravelle is set in the heart of historic downtown Christiansted.
