Mexico-based hotel giant Posadas is planning a major new resort destination in Mexico and the wider Caribbean.

It’s called Tulkal, and it will feature multiple resorts, including a 515-room Fiesta Americana all-inclusive and a 340-room Live Aqua Beach Resort.

Overall the destination will total 1,300 oceanfront rooms spread across all of its properties in its final phase.

Tulkal, in the heart of the Riviera Maya, will also be home to a 33,000-square-foot convention center, part of Posadas‘ big bet on the meetings sector.

It’s part of a wider pipeline in the wider region that includes a whopping 53 resort properties under construction, all set to open over the next 30 months, according to Enrique Calderon, chief operating officer of Posadas.

“Our goal is to have 300 properties in our portfolio by 2020, which equals about one hotel every two weeks this year,” Calderon said in a statement.

That will also include three other Caribbean resorts, including the Grand Fiesta Americana Punta Cana Los Corales, set to debut in 2021, along with two in Cuba: the 633-room Fiesta Americana Punta Varadero and the 749-room Fiesta Americana Holguín Costa Verde.

Posada, already the largest hotel company in Mexico, is also planning to open a new resort in Santo Domingo, while eyeing new markets like Jamaica, Aruba and other Caribbean destinations.

“While we are proud of our growth after decades of leading Mexico’s hotel industry, where are even more proud of being pioneers in perfecting and spreading the traditional Mexican hospitality our company is best known for,” said Calderon. “We can assure our loyal guests that despite the ambitious plan, we will guarantee that the essence of our offering will not be impacted – especially as we enter new markets.”

Posadas currently has 180 hotels in operation, with seven brands across 60 destinations.
