A new airport could be coming to Long Island in The Bahamas.

The Bahamas’ government has already launched the process toward the creation of the airport, according to Bahamas Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar.

Indeed, the government is already reviewing tenders from a recent RFP for architectural and engineering services for the airport.

The Bahamas will be announcing the winning bidder for that project next week.

D’Aguilar toured the existing airport runway last week, meeting with nearby residents who would likely have to be relocated to facilitate the construction of the new facility.

It would be a significant boon for Long Island, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas — and a major new five-star resort project already in the works called Port St George.
