A New Way to Stay in Belize

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 8, 2019

Far from the beaches of Placencia or the energy of Ambergris Caye, there’s another side of Belize: the jungle.

The destination’s rugged interior is filled with adventure — and now there’s a new way to experience it.

Adventure hotel The Lodge at Chaa Creek has debuted a new eco-destination called the Macal River Camp.

While staying at the camp has been possible for some time, this is the first time Chaa Creek is officially marketing it for travelers.

Macal River Camp is a mix of 10 “casitas,” along with a thatched-roof dining area, a kitchen, eco-showers and bathrooms, a large campfire and a canoe landing.

The camp, which was recently refurbished, contains single and double beds, with a total capacity of 52 guests.

The Juarez family are the official hosts of the camp, providing everything from home-cooked meals to maintenance and security.

“It’s a perfect example of Belizean bush hospitality,” said Robert Harrison, marketing administrator at Chaa Creek. “”It’s a great way for families, couples and groups to share an adventure while saving on accommodation, and without sacrificing any of the comforts and amenities the Lodge is known for.”

And while it’s a decidedly different experience, the Camp is just 15 minutes from the Lodge itself.
