Caribbean hotel occupancy was largely flat to start off 2019, according to new data from hotel analytics firm STR.

The region’s occupancy was 68.4 percent in January, meaning a decline of 0.1 percent compared to the same month in 2018.

Average daily rates and revenues rose, however, with the Caribbean’s average daily room rate rising by 5.7 percent to $247.07, and revenue per available room jumping by 5.6 percent to $168.93.

That followed a relatively strong December, when occupancy rose by 2 percent.

STR’s data surveyed 1,969 hotels across the wider Caribbean region comprising 252,234 hotel rooms.
