Canadian carrier Air Transat has finally returned to St Maarten.

The airline officially resumed service to the destination this week after a 15-month hiatus in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Transat is now operating weekly scheduled flights to St Maarten from both Montreal and Toronto, with service every Saturday.

“We have to continue to let the world know that St Maarten is opened for business and that is what the return of many airlines we have been working with signals internationally,” said St Maarten Tourism Minister Stuart Johnson. “In 2019 we will build on the momentum that has been created this year, with our tourism partners on the northern side of the island, to ensure the message that ‘we are open for business’ reaches all corners of the globe.”

While Transat had been offering charter flights, the new frequencies are full commercial flights.
