The Caribbean’s most popular beach destination is getting more flights from Canada.

Sunwing has begun operating its first-ever flight from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

“We are very excited about the additional route this season,” said Ed Schmidtke, President and CEO of Thunder Bay International Airports Authority. “We are delighted by Sunwing’s confidence in our market and we look forward to another successful winter charter season.”

The new service will run from Thunder Bay each Wednesday from now through March 27, 2019, part of a wider Caribbean expansion from Thunder Bay that includes flights to Cancun, Mexico and Varadero in Cuba.

“We are excited to be offering residents of Thunder Bay and northern Ontario even more ways to ‘vacation better’ this winter,” said Andrew Dawson, Sunwing’s president of tour operations. “Our seasonal flight service from Thunder Bay has been well-received and we are delighted to be returning for our ninth season and adding a third option with the introduction of our new weekly flight service to Punta Cana.”

The fully-integrated Sunwing is working with several properties in Punta Cana, including the adults-only Riu Republica.
