Princess Cruises is set to bring its Royal Princess cruise ship to the Port of Los Angeles.

Beginning March 23, the 3,560-passenger ship will homeport in Los Angeles, following a renovation project that added new beds in every stateroom and a new spa and fitness center.

Royal Princess’ itineraries will include a series of cruises from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera, with stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta between March and April.

“We’ve been sailing from the Port of Los Angeles longer than any other cruise line, starting with one ship to Mexico in 1965,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president.

Indeed, the company’s Pacific Princess ship was the star on the famous television program “The Love Boat.”

“Now we’re beginning a new chapter, more than 50 years later, with the arrival of Royal Princess and our biggest West Coast season yet, featuring one of our newest and most elegant ships in our global fleet,” Swartz said.

It’s part of an increasing trend of major cruise lines ramping up their West Coast cruising efforts, from Carnival to Holland America, with a focus on Mexico cruises.

Royal Princess first made its debut in 2013; its amenities range from the 60-foot-long SeaWalk walkway to a large “Piazza” featuring entertainment and culinary concepts.
