European low-cost carrier has launched its newest route to the Caribbean, this time with a service out of Montreal.

This week, Norwegian began operating thrice-weekly service between Montreal and the French Caribbean island of Martinique.

The flights operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, another boost for Martinique’s fast-growing airlift network.

Norwegian is also expanding several routes from the United States to Martinique this season.

“We are extremely excited to add a new route between Montréal and Martinique, as we continue to grow our French Caribbean network. Montréal is also our very first Canadian destination, and it made perfect sense for us to start entering this new market by connecting Martinique to Montréal adding this very important North American gateway to our already popular and successful routes from New York and Fort Lauderdale,” said Anders Lindstrom, director of communications at Norwegian.

According to Karine Mousseau, Martinique’s Commissioner of Tourism, the island is seeing strong demand out of the Canadian market, with 49 percent growth in advance bookings to Martinique for the upcoming winter tourist season.
