By the Caribbean Journal staff
Spanish hotel chain Best Hotels is building a new hotel in the Dominican Republic’s tourism hub of Punta Cana.
Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina was on hand to lay the first stone on the project, which will be located in the Cabeza de Toro area of Punta Cana.
It’s the first Caribbean property for the company, whose portfolio has until now been focused in Spain, Andorra and the Canary Islands.
The property will include a large convention center, a kids’ area, a nightclub, bars, boutiques and a large casino, among other amenities, according to Jose Batalla, president of the Best Hotels chain.
It’s the latest new project to debut in the Dominican Republic, which now has more than 90,000 accommodation units across hotels, apartments and tourist villas, according to Dominican Republic Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia, who was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony.
