Jamaica’s cabinet has approved the signing of new air services agreements with four countries, the government said this week.
The prospective air services agreements would be signed with Slovenia, Morocco, The Bahamas and South Africa, according to Information Minister Ruel Reid.
“This is important in negotiating direct flights to Jamaica. Cabinet noted that Jamaica had participated in 16 air-service agreement negotiation sessions since 2008,” Reid said.
The news comes as Jamaica has been seeing a boom in new airlift, from traditional source markets like the United States and Canada to emerging tourism source markets like Northern Europe and Central America.
Air service agreements pave the way for commercial air transport between signatory countries.
