Demand is rising for hotel accommodations in Cuba, according to a new report from global travel giant Expedia.

Since May of last year, Expedia says it has seen increased demand for Cuba accommodations, with growth across destinations on the island.

That includes particularly strong performance in markets like Havana, Varadero and western Cuba.

“Cuba offers a unique combination of history, culture and some of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the Caribbean. We are convinced of the potential of the island and are proud of our contribution to the country,” said Rafael del Castillo, senior director for Mexico and the Caribbean, Expedia Group.

About 50 percent of demand came from the United States market, the company said, with more than five percent from Mexico and the United Kingdom.

While travel to Cuba remains extremely restricted for American travelers, Expedia said it had seen a 360 percent increase in mobile booking demand from the US to Cuba in June, up from June 2017.
