Fast-growing low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is expanding again in the Caribbean Basin, with another new route to Colombia.

The carrier has revealed plans to launch new flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to the city of Cali.

The new flights, which will launch Dec. 20, will become Spirit’s fifth destination in Colombia, along with Cartagena, Bogota, Medellin and Armenia.

“Spirit is excited to grow once again in the beautiful country of Colombia,” said Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, in a statement. “After starting service there more than a decade ago, we continue to see amazing demand by our Guests wishing to visit family and friends or enjoy a vacation full of culture and cuisine. Cali will be yet another option to keep loved ones connected and provide added convenience to our guests.”

It’s yet another new route to the region from Fort Lauderdale, where Spirit has been significantly ramping up its operations across the Caribbean.

“Aerocali is pleased with the arrival of Spirit Airlines at Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport. The announcement of the Cali – Fort Lauderdale route is the sum of Spirit and Aerocali’s efforts to develop new air routes,” said Ricardo Alberto Lenis Steffens, Aerocali’s General Manager. “The start of operations of this airline will expand the network of connections within the United States, beyond their hub in Fort Lauderdale.”

Overall, Cali becomes Spirit’s 17th destination in Latin America.
