Dominican Republic Tourism Continues Climbing

Tourism in the Dominican Republic is continuing its strong year in 2018, according to the latest numbers from the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank.

The country’s tourist arrival numbers are no up 5.5 percent for the year, compared to the first eight months of 2017.

That represents a total of 4.644 million tourists, or an increase of 243,925 over last year at this time.

That included a total of 537,575 arrivals in August, a 3.2 percent increase over the same month in 2017.

North America continues to be the major feeder market for the Dominican Republic, accounting for almost 61 percent of all tourist arrivals, followed by Europe at 22.4 percent.

Punta Cana International Airport received the lion’s share of arrivals, with just under 70 percent of all foreign tourists in the period.

The Dominican Republic is the most-visited destination in the Caribbean region.
