New Floating Pier Coming to Port Royal

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Jamaica’s government has approved a new sea walk floating pier for cruise ships in the historic town of Port Royal.

The $7.4 million project will cover the supply, installation and commissioning of the sea walk floating pier, according to the government.

Cruise Ventures AS was awarded the contract on the project.

Earlier this year, Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness approved the development of a cruise ship terminal at Port Royal, which would create a platform for the restoration of the sector in the 500-year-old town.

The restoration would include historical sites in Port Royal, including the Old Naval Hospital, Fort Charles, the Admiralty Houses and Fort Rocky.
