Viking Ocean Cruises to Call on San Juan

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Sea cruise ship will be making its first-ever call to San Juan this week, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company confirmed.

The ship will arrive at the Port of San Juan on Oct. 26, when it will become the second ship to call on San Juan since Hurricane Maria. (Royal Caribbean will be making an earlier call with its Adventure of the Seas ship).

Viking Sea will be making both homeport and transit stops, bringing its 450 passengers to San Juan and making a transit stop that day before overnighting for one night on the boat.

Then, on Oct. 27, the boat will welcome a new group of 750 passengers who will spend the night on the ship before staying in San Juan in transit on Oct. 28 to begin a trip across the Caribbean.

Viking Ocean is the ocean-going wing of the well-known Viking River Cruises company.

“Despite being a relatively new cruise line on our shores, Viking has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment and level of loyalty to our Island as a destination,” said Jose Izquierdo, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. “We thank you for not losing your trust in Puerto Rico during these difficult times, as well as for the supplies and supplies sent to help those affected by Hurricane Maria. As mandated by the governor Ricardo Rosselló, we will continue working to be able to reestablish cruise operations in its entirety.”
