Bogota’s Big Hotel Growth

Colombia’s tourism investment has been surging in recent years, most notably in the Caribbean coastal town of Cartagena.

But the country’s increasingly hip capital is seeing a hotel boom of its own.

Bogota has more than 1,752 hotel rooms in construction across seven projects, according to the latest data from hotel analytics firm STR.

That was the largest in Central and South America, a region that posted a total of 27,333 rooms across 169 hotels in construction in July.

Overall, there were 60,151 rooms in 384 hotel projects under contract in the wider region, which actually represented a 7.8 percent decrease compared to July 2016.
