The Most Romantic Place on Peter Island

It’s called Honeymoon Beach and it’s hard to think of a more appropriate name for this scallop of ivory sand, one of five on Peter Island, the private-island oasis in the British Virgin Islands.

That’s because regardless of the guest count at the 52-room resort, the tiny secluded bay is reserved for two couples each day: one pair in the morning, the other in the afternoon.

Which means that after you make the bone-jarring journey in the island shuttle down a rutted hillside path to this hidden shore, the reward is not just well-deserved, it’s entirely yours.

A thatch-roofed cabana provides welcome shade; a pair of chaises awaits at the water’s frothy edge; sailboats sway on a mirror-flat sea; and in the distance, the profiles of neighboring Tortola and the remainder of Peter Island beckon.

They’re alluring yes, but not enough to distract you from the tasks at hand: cooling off in the Caribbean and warming up to each other.

Could a name other than Honeymoon Beach be as sweet a moniker for this blissfully secluded sweep? Perhaps. But certainly not as fitting.
