Dominican Republic Tourism Surging Again

By: - May 25th, 2017

The Dominican Republic is seeing continued strong growth in tourism arrivals so far this year, according to the latest data from the country’s Central Bank.

The Dominican Republic saw a 7.5 percent increase in tourist arrivals in the first four months of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.

A total of 2,223,126 visitors came to the Dominican Republic between January and April, according to the central bank data.

The strong start to 2017 comes after a similarly robust performance in 2016, when the Dominican Republic reported a total of 5.959 million tourist arrivals, up 6.7 percent from the previous year, according to data supplied by the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

That total was by far the highest of any destination in the Caribbean last year.

The country has a stated goal of reaching 10 million annual visitors by 2023.
