Jamaica to Spend $30 Million on Ocho Rios Upgrades

Ocho Rios and its flaghship resort, the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande.

Jamaica is planning just over $30 million USD in new construction and renovations on tourism infrastructure in Ocho Rios.

The projects include a major upgrade of Ocho Rios’ Reynolds Pier to enable the facility to accommodate cruise ships. That will complement the city’s existing pier, which will also see about $2 million earmarked for the improvement of its adjacent promenade.

“So, you will now have two berths at which you can receive cruise ships… which means you can accommodate two (vessels) at a time,” said Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

Jamaica is also spending just under $780,000 on renovations to Ocho Rios’ market, along with the addition of a new artisan village.

“It is time that we take a different view of craft and treat it as an important pillar of the tourist experience,” the Prime Minister said.
