St. Lucia Planning Major Tourism Investment Push

The island of St. Lucia is looking to make itself one of the more attractive places to invest in tourism in the Caribbean.

The country is currently in the process of repositioning its tourism sector to “create a favorable environment where tourism can thrive,” said Tourism Minister Dominica Feddee.

The new push includes the transitioning of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board to the Tourism Authority, a move hoped to strengthen to public-private sector collaboration in the tourism sector.

The drive coincides with the opening of the new Royalton Saint Lucia Resort project.

“[The Royalton comes] at a time when we are taking a careful look at our incentive legislation,” Feddee said. “The next level of incentives will not just intensify investment, but it will ensure that we have very viable and sustainable tourism projects in Saint Lucia.”

Earlier this year, St. Lucia announced plans for a multibillion-dollar tourism project called Pearl of the Caribbean on the southern edge of the island.
