Many of the best beaches in Jamaica are either totally hidden or private, tucked away for a special few. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find some of the island’s best beaches for yourself, too.
Because while Jamaica is known as the land of rum, reggae and rastas but it’s also home to some of the best beaches you’ll find.
From Portland’s eastern shores to Negril famous western strip and several spots in between, there are plenty of places to spread your towel and soak up the sun.

Seven Mile Beach, Negril This (almost) seven-mile-long strip on Jamaica’s northwest coast is as famous for its laidback bohemian vibe, beachfront hotels and colorful parade of local characters as it is for its white sands and warm, clear water.
Frenchman’s Cove Embraced by lush hillside, bordered by gardens and bisected by a refreshing river, this Port Antonio cove is one of the island’s most-photographed, made famous as a location for the 1988 Tom Cruise movie, Cocktail.
Boston Visitors come here to taste jerk in the Portland town where it originated, but the smartest of them enjoy their fiery feast on the golden sands of this east-coast beach, where active waves make it a favorite of surfers.
Doctor’s Cave Underground streams with reputedly healing properties flow directly into the turquoise waters of Montego Bay’s marquee beach, which is a favorite of cruise ship passengers, hotel guests and Montegonians alike.
Dunn’s River Ocho Rios’ stunning 600-foot-tall cascades are rightfully famous, but we love the half-mile of sand that lies at their base, which makes a surprisingly serene spot to relax while crowds tackle the climb.
Hellshire Golden sand and lively surf make this beach just outside Kingston a go-to, but, in truth, it’s the fried fish and scrumptious accompaniments sold from water’s-edge vendors’ shacks that’s the main attraction.
