Celebrity Cruises Reveals New “Celebrity Edge” Ship

Celebrity Edge fort lauderdale

The "Magic Carpet."

Celebrity Cruises has offered the first look at its planned “Celebrity Edge” cruise ship, which was designed completely in 3D.

The 2,918-guest ship has dramatically expanded staterooms and a rather clever “magic carpet” moving ship-side platform.

Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting, innovative and transformational ships I have ever been involved with,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Celebrity’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “The new features and refined design will establish a new baseline for ships from here on out.”

The ship included a slate of boldfaced designers, including Kelly Hoppen of Kelly Hoppen Interiors, architect Tom Wright of WKK and designer Nate Burkus, who is the ship’s “design ambassador.”

The design touches include new kinds of staterooms like the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, which lets guests initiate open-air access with the touch of a button.

The ship will also include something called The Retreat, which will include a private pool and round-the-clock personal butler service for certain suite categories.

The ship will also include six “Edge Villas,” which have two stories, private plunge pools and direct walk-out access to The Retreat’s sundeck.

The aforementioned Magic Carpet, a platform the size of a tennis court, can scale the 16-story ship through the day and position itself at four different decks, transforming itself into a different experience at every level, from an open-air restaurant to a “luxury embarkation station.”

Celebrity Edge will homeport in Fort Lauderdale, with its first sailing Dec. 16, 2018.
