Dominican Republic Reports Uptick in Business Travel

The Dominican Republic is reporting an uptick in business travel, the country’s Ministry of Tourism said this week in its latest update.

The country welcomed more than 136,000 visitors either traveling on business or attending conferences and conventions between January and November, according to data from the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank.

That number is expected to exceed business travelers in 2015, boosted by increased conferences and Santo Domingo’s continued growth as a business hub in the Caribbean.

The latter has been boosted by an investment push on the part of the Dominican Republic, along with a wave of new hotel openings in the capital, including the JW Marriott Santo Domingo and the recently-debuted InterContinental.
