Holland America’s New Private Island Lobster Shack

Lobster Shack

Holland America’s Half Moon Cay private island will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2017, and the cruise line is making some updates for the occasion.

That includes the introduction of a new Lobster Shack restaurant on the island serving up fresh grilled lobster with a rum-jerk butter glaze.

The lobster barbecue will be available for what the line calls a “nominal fee,” along with rum punch and other beverages.

“For the past 20 years Half Moon Cay has been the recipient of numerous accolades ranking it the best private island in the Caribbean, and it continues to be the jewel in our Caribbean itineraries,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “We are renowned for providing top destination experiences, and all of our guests will enjoy the recent enhancements on Half Moon Cay, including the Lobster Shack that is a fantastic addition to our culinary offerings.”

Half Moon Cay has also undergone some other upgrades, including the addition of new Sunfish sailboats, Aqua Cycle trikes and Aqua Trax Wave Runners.

The island’s Captain Morgan on the Rocks bar has a new decor, while the island’s private beachside cabanas and villas got facelifts with new paint and new furnishings.

All of Holland America’s Caribbean cruises out of Fort Lauderdale will stop on Half Moon Cay this season, including guests on the ms Koningsdam, ms Eurodam, ms Zuiderdam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Rotterdam, ms Veendam and ms Prinsendam.
