A New Solar Farm Is Coming to Guyana

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 29, 2016

A new solar farm is coming to a far corner of the Caribbean region.

Guyana’s Mabaruma region will soon be getting the area’s first-ever solar farm, at an investment cost of around $1.29 million USD.

The installation, which will take place next year, is part of a wider solar farm project that will see the installation of similar farms in hinterland regions across the country.

The 400-kilowatt solar farm will afford an additional 17 hours of electricity to the 3,000 residents of Mabaruma, according to Guyana Finance Minister Winston Jordan.

“[We have] also advanced the pursuit of additional solar farms with a capacity of 800 kilowatts atLethem, 400 kilowatts at Mahdia, and 1.5 megawatts at Bartica,” Jordan said.
