Jamaica to Upgrade Ocho Rios Tourism Infrastructure

Jamaica Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett

The Jamaican tourist hub of Ocho Rios is getting a major infrastructure upgrade, according to Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett.

The town will see around $2.21 million USD in infrastructural developments, including the construction of a boardwalk from the Ocho Rios Pier to the Ocean Village Shopping Centre.

That will be complemented by several sidewalk cafes showcasing live reggae band performances, among other attractions.

Ocho Rios is also one of three towns that have been selected for the development of artisan villages that will accommodate local craft traders.

“This will be a real game changer for the craft sector and will see them having far better access to cruise and stopover visitors (as well as) earning some much needed foreign exchange,” Bartlett said.

“The town of Ocho Rios has an integral role to play in maintaining Jamaica’s (global) competitive advantage. However, we will achieve this only by offering a world class competitive tourism product that ensures the first and last impression our visitors have of Jamaica is a pleasant and memorable one,” he said.
