Caribbean Hotel Occupancy Shows Slight Rebound

Hotel Occupancy

After 10 straight months of declining hotel occupancy in the Caribbean, the region finally posted positive, if minimal growth in September, according to the latest numbers from STR.

The region posted 54.7 percent occupancy in September (the height of the offseason), which was a 0.5 percent increase over September last year.

Hotels like the rebranded Four Seasons Anguilla could bode well for occupancy in the coming tourist season.

The increase could be a positive sign for a regional industry that has been struggling in 2016 with a 3.2 percent overall decline in hotel occupancy .

The news wasn’t all positive, though, as both average daily rates and RevPar fell in September, with ADR down 6.1 percent to $142.91 and RevPar declining 5.7 percent to $78.20.

Both of those decline were significantly slower than previous months, however.
