Booking Flights to Vieques, Culebra and the VI Just Got Easier

Booking trips to some of the Caribbean’s most sought-after (and hard-to-get-to) destinations just got a lot easier.

In a big boost for Caribbean air travel, JetBlue has announced the signing of a codeshare agreement with regional carrier Cape Air.

That means travelers can buy a single ticket for itineraries that include flights by both carriers, and check their bags through to their final destination.

The move will give travelers a host of Caribbean options from JetBlue’s San Juan hub, where Cape Air flies to Caribbean destinations.

That means ease of booking for flights to Vieques, Culebra, Puerto Rico; St. Croix; St. Thomas, Tortola and Virgin Gorda, along with the Puerto Rican destination of Mayaguez.

That could be a particular boon for what JetBlue called “boutique destinations” like Culebra, Vieques and Virgin Gorda, which do not receive nonstop flights from the mainland United States and to which traveling often requires the extra hassle of booking a separate ticket on a separate web site — not to mention coordinating flight times.

“No matter how big or small our customers’ hometown or destination may be, they can be sure JetBlue and Cape Air will make booking a ticket and traveling more convenient than ever before,” said Robin Hayes, president and CEO, JetBlue. “And as we mark a decade of working with Cape Air, we couldn’t be more pleased to strengthen this important relationship with our original airline partner.”

The new agreement represents the expansion of a partnership first formed in 2007 between the two carriers.

All offered routes can be purchased directly on JetBlue.com, the company said.

“The new codeshare agreement further solidifies our shared commitment to offering an expanded network and a seamless travel experience for our customers,” said Linda Markham, president of Cape Air.

JetBlue also has a codeshare agreement with regional carrier Seaborne, also based in Puerto Rico.
