A new French low-cost carrier has entered the Caribbean market.

New Paris-based low-cost carrier French Blue has begun operating flights from Orly Airport to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

The flights began operation on an Airbus A330 with a capacity of 378 passengers; fares are roughly half the cost of competing European carriers. The company is operating four weekly flights to Punta Cana.

Airline Chairman Marc Rochet said the plan was to become the number one French airline operating flights to the destination.

The carrier will begin with roughly 100,000 seats, with plans to double the frequency to two daily flights.

“Our rates are affordable for all, and we have created a product to generate the demand,” Rochet said. “We believe that everyone deserves a holiday and our company is making this great effort.”

It’s estimated that around 230,000 passengers travel each year between Paris and Punta Cana.
