The Caribbean’s Most Innovative Country

Most Innovative Country

What’s the most innovative country in the Caribbean right now?

Right now, it’s the Dominican Republic, according to the latest edition of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index, which was released this week.

The Dominican Republic is ranked 76th in the world for innovation, just ahead of Tunisia and just behind Kazakhstan.

The next-highest-ranked Caribbean country is Jamaica, which came in at 89th in the world.

The report looked at a series of factors impacting innovation, including institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market sophistication, business sophistication, knowledge and technology outputs and creative outputs.

Among those areas, the Dominican Republic ranked highest for market sophistication and business sophistication, and poorest for human capital and research.

It should be noted that the report only focused on 128 countries, leaving most of the Caribbean’s less-populous nations off the list.

Last year’s highest-ranked Caribbean country, Barbados, was not included in this year’s ranking, although its absence was not explained.
